Preparation
  • Thoroughly vacuum the mattress to remove any surface dust and dirt.
  • Fill a spray bottle with part water and part detergent (should be very concentrated)
  • Spray the liquid onto any potential problem areas.
  • Leave to soak for at least 10 minutes
  • Fill the intake tank of the carpet extractor machine with warm water, and add detergent as well as some disinfectant. (amount depends on the quality and how concentrated it is)
Cleaning / Scrubbing

  • Using the machine, spray the section of the mattress that you would like to clean.
  • Use a scrubbing brush with soft bristles to agitate the surface and work the solution in to the fibers.
  • Be cautious with brushing certain mattress fabric and rather test a very small section first.
  • Skip this process if the mattress material is too delicate or could rip from brushing.
  • Once complete, use the extraction cleaner to further clean and remove the dirt from the mattress.

Rinsing
  • Once completed, again fill the tank with clean water, and add disinfectant.
  • Spray the water /disinfectant solution on to the mattress and then extract it immediately.
  • This helps to remove any soapy residue which might have remained and also kills germs and bacteria embedded in the fabric.
  • Repeat these steps until the whole mattress has been covered.
Drying
  • Place some clean towels on the ground, next to a rigid structure (wall)
  • This should be preferably in a sunny area with with airflow to speed up drying time.
  • Place the mattress on the towels (on it’s side) to face the sun.
  • Periodically rotate the mattress to get all sides to dry.
